Sonos Teams With Blue Note For Collector’s Edition

Santa Barbara, Calif. – Sonos plans to offer a limited-edition Play:1 wireless speaker honoring the 75-year-old Blue Note Records jazz label.

The collector’s edition Blue Note PLAY:1 will be sold exclusively on Sonos.com for $250. Only 4,000 units will be made and will be available in the coming weeks.

The speaker features a custom design and streaming of exclusive playlists. The company used hand-painting techniques and robotics to create a speaker finish that fades vertically from dark navy to cerulean blue.

The speaker comes with a year of Blue Note programming via three curated channels built into the Sonos app. One accesses handpicked selections from Blue Note artists such as Robert Glasper, Jose James, Terence Blanchard, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Lionel Loueke. Blue Note president Don Was also picked 125 of his personal favorites.

Also for a year, the speaker includes accesses to two other Sonos-exclusive Blue Note stations: Born in Blue and Blue Note 101. Born in Blue brings legendary Blue Note artists and those who have sampled them for mixes said to “celebrate the intersection of modern music and legendary jazz.” Blue Note 101 follows the label from its inception and id through its 75-year evolution.
