Sharp Paints It Black With Stainless Microwave Drawer

Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA) has introduced what it said is the first and only microwave drawer with a black stainless steel finish.

Like its sister models within Sharp’s microwave drawer line, the new addition (SMD2470AH) features a low-profile design, clean sightlines and a concealed control panel that folds out with a touch to a 45-degree angle for easy access.

The 24-inch, 1.2-cubic-foot oven also features 1,000 watts of cooking power; customizable settings; pre-programmed functions like reheat, defrost, cook and popcorn; plus Sharp’s “virtual carousel” for easy cleaning.

“We know that those looking to build a new home or remodel their kitchens are looking for options, so we’re excited to give them one more when it comes to their microwave oven,” said SEMCA president Jim Sanduski. “We believe it will be the season’s ‘micro-crave,’ providing more versatile options than ever before.”

Added sales and marketing senior VP Peter Weed-fald, “When creating or re-creating the kitchen of your dreams, you should be able to have everything you want — and that includes both abundant counter space and material finishes that compliment a wide range of design schemes. Stainless steel is a proven favorite, but until now has been limited for appliances. Now available in black, designers and homeowners can further incorporate the timeless black finish.”

Sharp, which holds 11 patents on the microwave drawer platform, has priced the black stainless model to hit a $1,700 retail. The unit began shipping this month and was expected to begin arriving on sales floors last week.
