Sears Goes To The Mattresses

Sears has opened a new-format specialty store devoted to appliances and mattresses.

The freestanding showroom, located in the border town of Pharr, Texas, builds on the success of an earlier prototype, an appliance-only retail store that opened one year ago in Colorado, the company said.

Leena Munjal, customer experience and integrated retail senior VP, said the appliance concept shop has surpassed projections since opening in May 2016, “so expanding it to another key category like mattresses, and in an important local community like Pharr, made perfect sense.”

The latest 20,000-square-foot pilot is twice the size of its predecessor and features what Sears described as the top 10 major appliance brands, including its private-label Kenmore badge.

The store also stocks leading mattress brands like Tempur-Pedic, Beautyrest, Sealy, Serta, Simmons, and Stearns & Foster, as well as floor care, countertop and home-comfort appliances.

The centerpiece of the store is a 122-inch interactive “Discover More” digital display and tablet system that allows customers to visualize select appliances within a variety of kitchen layouts and colors. Visitors can also use the display and tablets to shop for other products on Sears.com.
