Samsung is bringing out platinum and 18-karat Rose Gold versions of its Gear S2 Classic smartwatch at $449, joining the original Gear S2 Classic in black stainless steel at $349. The new finishes will be available Feb. 12 at Samsung.com, Best Buy, Amazon.com, Macy’s and other stores.
The S2 Classic features a more traditional watch-like design than the company’s S2.
The Rose Gold S2 Classic features Rose Gold plating and ivory leather band, while the platinum-plated version comes with black leather band. Both feature the Gear S2’s rotating-bezel design, which lets users navigate through notifications, apps and widgets.
Whatever the finish, the smart watch displays notifications of calendar items, emails, and news when connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It also lets users send texts from the device, and it doubles as a stand-alone music player and fitness tracker. Navigation prompts are displayed when connected to a phone.
The watch has a 1.2-inch circular screen with 360 by 360 302 PPI resolution, a battery that lasts up to two to three days, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, heart-rate monitor, ambient light sensor and a barometer. It is also waterproof.
