Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung Electronics introduced Thursday a retro-design NX-series compact system camera with a 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor.
Samsung said model NX3000 will carry a $529 suggested retail for the camera with a 16-50mm OIS Power Zoom lens and an SEF-8 flash, and $479 for the camera with a 20-50mm lens and SEF-8 flash. It will target photo enthusiasts looking for stylish equipment with cutting-edge feature capability.
It will be offered in a choice of black, white or brown body colors and will come bundled with Samsung’s new compact 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS lens and a copy of Adobe Lightroom v5.
Users will be able to control the 16-50mm Power Zoom lens using the camera’s zoom function on their mobile device via the Remote Viewfinder Pro feature.
The camera includes a 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, 1/4,000-second shutter speed and 5 fps continuous shooting, to capture fast action.
“Consumers have come to embrace mirrorless cameras as a versatile alternative to using their DSLRs, point-and-shoots and mobile devices for capturing images, and the NX3000 provides another approachable option for aspiring photographers looking to improve their images,” stated Ron Gazzola, Samsung digital imaging marketing VP senior VP. “With a similar photo-taking experience to that on a mobile device, coupled with the expandable NX system’s lenses and accessories, the NX3000 creates a welcoming opportunity for users to take charge and get creative with photography.”
The NX3000 is also optimized to enable selfies, Samsung said, by including a 3-inch flip-up display screen with Samsung’s Wink Shot functionality.
To capture a selfie, the photographer/subject can open the screen, frame the face in the display and wink to trigger the device to capture the shot.
The Samsung Smart camera also includes advanced Wi-Fi and NFC integration to easily share images. An exclusive Tag & Go feature allows the NX3000 to pair with NFC-enabled smartphones or tablets by touching the two together. Once paired, the devices can transfer multiple images from the camera to paired mobile devices through Mobile Link, send images to up to four devices with Group Share, and control the NX3000 via a smartphone with Remote View Finder Pro.
The ISO range is 100 to 25,600, and the camera will capture video in up to FullHD 1080/30p resolution. Images are stored to a MicroSD card.
