Samsung Adds New UHD LCD TV Models

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung Electronics America introduced Tuesday a new 85-inch Ultra HD LED LCD TV and two new Ultra HD LED LCD TV model series.

The additions expand Samsung’s 2014 UHD TV offerings to six series ranging in screen sizes from 40 inches to 110 inches.

The new 85-inch ($9,999 suggested retail) set will ship at the end of June, joining Samsung’s currently available HU8550-series models with 50-, 55-, 60-, 65- and 75-inch screen sizes.

The new HU7250 curved-screen Ultra HD LED TV series includes a pair of models in the 55- ($2,199) and 65-inch ($3,299) screen sizes, both slated for August deliveries.

The curved Ultra HD TV design is said to offer a more immersive viewing experience with a wider field of view that creates a panoramic effect.

The series incorporates Samsung’s proprietary Ultra HD up-scaling circuitry to up-convert SD, HD and FullHD content in near-Ultra HD quality on the new screens.

Key features in the series include Ultra HD Dimming for improved black levels, and Samsung’s Quad Screen Multi-Link feature that splits the screen into four windows to access live TV, streaming video and the web all at once.

The HU7250 includes the company’s smart-TV platform with a five-panel Smart Hub design powered by a quad-core processor.

The HU6950 flat-screen Ultra HD LED TV series includes the 40- ($999), 50- ($1,499) and 55-inch ($1,999) screen sizes, all with late-June availability.

The new flat series has 3,840 by 2,160 resolution with Ultra HD dimming, Ultra HD up-scaling and a quad-core processor.

Models include the aforementioned five-panel Smart Hub to organize favorite content and apps in one place, web browsing capabilities and the Quad Screen Multi-link feature.

“As the UHD TV market leader, we’re seeing excellent category growth and adoption among consumers who are looking for the highest resolution and best-in-class picture quality Samsung UHD TVs offer,” said Joe Stinziano, Samsung executive VP. “We’re excited to introduce another super-sized model and two entirely new series to our UHD TV family. Whether it’s a flat or curved UHD TV, Samsung continues to provide consumers the broadest selection of UHD TVs for any home.”

All of the new UHD sets support HEVC, HDMI 2.0, MHL 3.0 and HDCP 2.2 and can be retrofitted with a Samsung UHD Evolution Kit to stay current with changing technology standards in the future.

The One Connect Box essentially houses the brains of the TV externally, enabling customers to switch out the box with the latest Samsung UHD Evolution Kit (sold separately).
