Replay Networks, developer of a hard-disc video re-corder, announced that a new Replay TV model capable of up to 20 hours of video storage has been launched exclusively with e-commerce giant Amazon.com.

The Replay TV-2020 is selling exclusively on the e-commerce site until November 15, when it will be made available to other e-tailers. Amazon is charging $699 for the device, which doesn't require an additional subscription fee.

The recorder is Replay branded and is not a Panasonic-made unit, the company said. Replay TV receivers made and distributed under the Panasonic brand are expected to be the first units offered to traditional brick & mortar retail accounts. Previously, Replay had been selling its receivers through its own Web site, but it has now opted to distribute through authorized e-commerce partners, including Amazon.

"Amazon.com is an ideal place to introduce new products," said Steve Shannon, Replay Networks' marketing VP, in a prepared statement. "Because we play in a new category and have an even newer product, we look for ways to inform customers about the benefits and uses of ReplayTV. We couldn't think of any company better than Amazon.com to help us meet those goals."

The new model doubles the amount of television recording space on other Replay models. Replay said it also "represents the largest storage capacity for the price among all personal video recorders on the market."

ReplayTV 2020 gives consumers the power to pause live TV, rewind, fast-forward and instant-replay. And with the free ReplayTV Service, television viewers receive a nightly updated electronic program guide customized for their programming options (cable, satellite, or antenna) and periodic software updates that provide new features. -- Greg Tarr
