FORT WORTH, Texas -- RadioShack reported that May sales to its dealer/franchise stores increased 11 percent for the month, up from $294.3 million last year to $325.6 million this year. On a comp-store basis, sales at the company-owned stores increased 7 percent for the month when compared to 17 percent for the prior-year period.

RadioShack's year-to-date total sales were $1.67 billion vs. $1.46 billion in 1999, representing an increase of 14 percent. Year-to-date comparable-store sales have increased 10 percent.

Len Roberts, RadioShack's chairman, president and CEO, said comp-store sales were on schedule, "driven by strong results in our computer business and audio video categories during the month." He expects "exceptional results" from the launch of the RCA Digital Entertainment Center at RadioShack.

Roberts also announced that RadioShack will launch this fall the Microsoft Internet Center @ RadioShack.
