Polk, Definitive Add To Custom Speaker Lines

New York — Polk Audio and Definitive Technology have each launched new series of in-wall and in-ceiling vanishing speakers for the custom-installation channel.

Definitive Technology’s DT series is made up of five speakers that are designed to disappear into a wall or ceiling.

The speakers feature high-definition drivers with polypropylene mineral-filled cones and rubber surrounds for a clear, natural sound, the company said, with ceramic-coated annealed aluminum dome tweeters. Four of the five models feature tweeters with low-diffraction swivel mounts that are said to help improve dispersion, overall mid-range and off-axis response.

Prices range from $179 to $249 per speaker.

Polk Audio’s newest lineup of in-wall/in-ceiling custom-install speakers is called the V series and spans six SKUs ranging from $199 to $249. Created to meet the needs of more modest audio budgets, the new V-series speakers complete the brand’s Vanishing series.

Like other speakers in the series, the new models have “wafer-thin” sheer grilles that fit smoothly flush and are acoustically inert for wide dispersion and uniform sound coverage, even in larger rooms, the company said. Square grilles are also available in in-ceiling 6.5-inch and 8-inch models. The V series also offers vibration-free installation with Polk’s proprietary rotating cam system.
