One-Blue Signs 2 Replicators To BD Patent Pool

New York — Optical disc replicators PrimeDisc Marketing and Bestdisc Technology have joined the One-Blue Blu-Ray Disc (BD) product licensing program as licensees, One-Blue LLC said Wednesday.

Both companies signed BD ROM Disc License Agreements that grant each company access to important patents from leading licensors, including CyberLink, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, JVC Kenwood, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Taiyo Yuden and Yamaha.

PrimeDisc Marketing, based in Hong Kong, produces CDs and DVDs for branded computer hardware and software companies, leading publishers and global entertainment companies. Bestdisc Technology is a manufacturer and global supplier of optical media recording products located in Taiwan.

“PrimeDisc Marketing and Bestdisc Technology are highly valued licensees and continue to bolster the network of Blu-ray Disc replicators that have signed on to the One-Blue licensing program,” said William Lenihan, IP licensing director of One-Blue. “Our agreements with PrimeDisc and Bestdisc are further evidence that patent pooling is an effective tool for helping the BD industry manage its licensing programs.”

One-Blue administers the licensing program for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc products and is the joint licensing agent of its licensors. The product license for hardware and software products covers Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD essential patents; for disc products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc essential patents.
