Olympus Adds TG-3, SH-1 Stylus Cameras

Center Valley, Penn. — Olympus has introduced the Stylus Tough TG-3 all-weather point-and-shoot camera and Stylus SH-1 advanced super-zoom point-and-shoot. The Olympus TG-3 will ship in June at a $349 suggested retail, and will be available in a choice of black and red. The Stylus SH-1 will be available in May in black, white and silver at a suggested retail of $399. The TG-3 camera features a high-speed f2.0 lens (25mm–100mm 35mm equivalent), expanded macro photography capabilities, GPS, and built-in Wi-Fi for shooting and sharing images. It also captures video in FullHD 1080p resolution. The Olympus TG-3 withstands extreme conditions; the camera is freeze-proof to 14 degrees F, waterproof to 50 feet, shock-proof from 7 feet, crush-proof to 220 pounds and dust-proof. The camera includes a 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor, TruePic VII image process, and the 25mm-100mm equivalent f2.0–4.9 lens. A Variable Macro System includes a Microscope mode to capture photos at 0.4 in / 1 cm to infinity, focal length 30-100mm(equivalent). At full extension, the lens magnifies subjects up to 6.9x (optical) and up to 13.8x with Super Resolution Zoom. Other features include built-in Wi-Fi with QR code setup, free Olympus Image Share app for iOS or Android mobile devices for Live View display on the phone screen, and onboard GPS to document locations on the map and display and record landmark information with the shot. A built-in manometer records elevation and water depth and displays a warning when approaching a depth of 50 feet. An e-compass offers information on direction, latitude and longitude. A new Focus Stacking function captures eight different shots continuously, while shifting the focus from the foreground to the background. It extracts and merges only those areas of each image that are in focus and produces a single photo with a focus that spans several centimeters. Focus bracketing is also available for post-processing. A new Underwater Macro uses the macro photography capabilities to optimize the white balance, color saturation and contrast in underwater scenes. The camera includes a 3-inch 460,000-dot LCD monitor. Other features include a time-lapse movie function and interval shooting function for automatic sequential shooting from 1 second up to 24 hours with a maximum of 99 shots. An optional LED Light Guide is available to evenly illuminate close-up subjects. Meanwhile, the Stylus SH-1 long zoom point-and-shoot is billed as the first camera equipped with optical five-axis image stabilization for both still images and videos. The mechanical image stabilization system combines with the 24x, high-powered optical zoom lens for capture steady stills and FullHD 1080/60p videos with built-in Wi-Fi. The lens features digital super-resolution zoom to 48x, covering a 25-600mm equivalent telephoto range. The camera is equipped with a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and the TruePic VII image processor. The Stylus SH-1 design is patterned after the popular Olympus Pen interchangeable-lens-system cameras. The top and main controls are built with aluminum alloy. Other features include built-in Wi-Fi with QR-code setup, free iOS/Android app for Live View and control from the remote screen, and a 3-inch 460,000-dot LCD screen. The SH-1’s Advanced Movie mode includes 240 fps (or 120 fps in 720p) high-speed recording, which allows users to capture subjects that move at split-second speeds, and 60 fps HD recording. A Photo & Movie Capture mode allows users to simultaneously capture full-res still photos while recording FullHD video. Other features include Time-Lapse Movie, expanded creative capabilities include an Interval Shooting function for a maximum of 99 shots; high-speed burst shooting for capturing up to 11 fps in full resolution; manual mode; Live Guide for adjusting color and brightness via touch sliders; an electronic level gauge; and touchscreen controls for autofocus area and shutter release.
