New Rules: FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler Pushes App Alternative To Cable Boxes

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler is going forward with a proposal that will force pay-TV providers to give customers access to all paid content via their mobile devices, gaming consoles, media players and smart TVs.

The measure, which goes to a full FCC vote on Sept. 29, would essentially end the forced rental of set-top boxes by subscribers.
