New Mounts For Larger Screens, Lower Profile Installs Proliferate

Size is everything for flat-panel mount manufacturers as larger screen size mounting solutions and wall-hugging, low-profile models dominated second-quarter introductions.

Peerless Industries last month debuted what the company is calling “the world’s thinnest mount.” The ultra-thin Slimline universal mounting solution positions a flat-panel screen 0.4 inches from the wall.

Meant to complement Hitachi’s 1.5-inch UltraThin TVs, the mount’s universal design will enable it to accommodate increasingly thinner TV models, up to 150 pounds, from other TV manufacturers.

The mount features an industrial-strength Velcro latching system for secure installation and position locking.

The Slimline mount is available in three universal sizes for TVs up to 60 inches. The line is complemented by an in-wall A/V accessory box to allow electrical outlets, cables, plugs and accessories such as power conditioners to nest neatly behind the mount’s profile. For concrete, brick or other surfaces where internal cable management isn’t an option, Peerless offers an on-the-wall cable management system and shelving units to hold A/V components.

At “less than the width of a penny,” according to Chief, the company’s new Thinstall series of flat-panel mounts incorporate GlideLock tool-less latching to achieve faster installation in the field. The one-piece bracket is designed around the electrical placement requirements of the TV.

The Thinstall mounts are compatible with Chief’s PAC520 In-Wall Box, which provides an organizing recessed space for routing cables and attaching accessories such as surge protectors/power conditioners.

The first mount offered in the Thinstall Series, PSMT2015, was also designed with Hitachi’s UltraThin line. Complementing the TV’s profile, the PSMT2015 has a depth of 0.49 inches.

Additional Thinstall mounts will roll out to complement specific next-generation flat-panel TV models as they become available, the company said.

OmniMount has expanded its Ultra Low Profile series to include fixed versions of its low-profile tilt mounts, ideal for applications where tilt functionality isn’t necessary, the company said. The new mounts position screens 1.5 inches from the wall.

The ULPF-M, ULPF-L and ULPF-X fixed mounts and the ULPT-M, ULPT-L, and ULPT-X tilt mounts support flat panels from 26 to 42 inches, 40 to 63 inches and 55 to 75 inches, respectively.

The mounts are made from heavy-grade steel, have a black powder-coat finish and include extruded aluminum end caps for a clean side view.

They feature the company’s “Lift n’ Lock” technology, a built-in kickstand that allows access to post-installation wiring with no vertical lifting of the panel. The mounts also feature sliding lateral on-wall adjustment, universal rails for maximum flat panel compatibility, open architecture for simplified wiring and an installation template.

Suggested retails for the tilt mounts are $199 for the ULPT-M, $299 for the ULPT-L, and $329 for the ULPT-X. The fixed mounts retail for slightly less: $149 for the ULPF-M, $199 for the ULPF-L and $249 for the ULPF-X.

K2 Mounts has rolled out a series of mounts for panels 60 inches or larger. The new K4 series includes the K4-A1-B, a heavy-duty articulating arm with a 4.5-inch mounting depth, extension up to 27 inches and a 198-pound capacity. Also new is the K4-F-B, a lightweight model (it weighs about 5 pounds) with a 6.2-inch depth, 26-inch extension and 200-pound capacity.

Both models tilt up to 15 degrees and swing up to 180 degrees and retail for $549.

Looking ahead, a K2 spokesman said the company will introduce shortly its new Ultra Thin series of manual mounts designed to sit as close as 18mm (about 0.7 inches) from the wall. The company is also developing a low-cost motorized tilting mount that it hopes to bring to market in the fourth quarter. No further details were available.

PDR Mounts last month released the new PDM625F-8 and PDM750F-11 F series mounts for panels 55 to 85 inches.

With a rated capacity of 400 pounds, and tested at more than 1,600 pounds, the PDM750F-11 sports a 47.5-inch wide back plate. The PDM625F-8 is rated at 300 pounds and was successfully tested at more than 1,200 pounds. Both mounts are designed to meet the needs of the new 800 by 600 VESA bolt pattern prevalent on many new large flat panels, the company said.

The mounts include PDR’s patented “flat or fixed 5-degree tilt” slot selection. The flat-tilt slot provides installers with a working shortcut to temporarily rest the weight of the display on the top bar, install cabling to the display inputs and then refasten the bottom rail.

The retail price of the PDM-625F-8 is $232, and the retail price of the PDM-750F-11 is $317.

PDR offers a lifetime warranty on all its products and all models are manufactured in the company’s Southern California facility.

Sanus Systems unveiled two new mounts for large flat panels. The VisionMount LT25-B1 is a tilting mount for TVs up to 58 inches and 175 pounds. It features +/-2 degree roll and +/-15 degree tilt. The company’s Virtual Axis technology offers easy tilt adjustment without the need for tools, Sanus said. It retails for a suggested $199.

The new VisionMount LL22-B1 is a fixed (non-tilting) low-profile mount for screens up to 60 inches and 175 pounds. An open wall plate design provides cable management space. Tabs on the mounting brackets stay hidden, but pull down to unlock the panel from the wall plate for cable access during installation.

Both models feature proprietary ClickStand technology that holds the panel away from the wall during installation for easy cable access, then clicks back to the wall plate.

The LL22-B1 retails for $169.

Brand new from AVF is a corner mounting system for LCD panels up to 70 inches. The mount allows the wall mounting of an LCD TV and accessories in the corner of a room.

When mounted, the unit gives a floating appearance to the TV and up to three components. The TV and shelving units are attached together and slide laterally sideways or swivel as one complete unit up to 15 degrees right and left, with 15 degrees of tilt. The unit hides all cables through the adjustable central column and features clip-on installation of the panel.

The corner mount will be available at the end of August in both piano black and silver effect with a likely suggested retail of $499.

Among nearly two dozen new mounts being introduced by Salamander Designs in the coming months will be the new PilotMotion series, consisting of two motorized wall mounts and one tabletop mount that respond to instructions from supplied remote controls.

All three feature a quiet rotator mechanism employing the company’s patented “Weightless ZeroForce” design. Tilt mechanisms on the two wall mounts allow nearly frictionless maneuverability while the mounts respond to remote-control instructions to rotate the screen up to 30 degrees to the left or right, the company said.

The PilotMotion 100 TableTop model features a black glass base with a black steel support column with cable storage. It provides maximum screen positioning flexibility for tabletop use with flat-panel TVs from 32 to 50 inches with a maximum weight of 110 pounds. The mount rotates up to 30 degrees left and right, offers three height adjustments and includes a universal mounting-hole pattern. The programmable remote can be pre-set to a favorite screen position.

Suggested retail pricing will be announced.
