National, Via Complete Cyrix Sale

National Semiconductor and the Taiwanese firm Via Technologies have completed a deal that has Via buying the Cyrix microprocessor business from National for $167 million.

The two companies signed a letter of intent on the deal on June 30 for Via to purchase the Cyrix MII X86 PC processor business. Via has stated it will market Cyrix-branded processors to the consumer market where it will compete against Intel and AMD.
