Monoprice Offers USB-C Cables, Adapters

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. — Monoprice has announced the availability of its first line of USB-C (USB 3.1) cables and adapters.

The company has also created a micro site to educate consumers on USB-C’s benefits.

The USB-C connector will be compatible with Apple’s new line of MacBooks and Microsoft’s new Surface 3.0 tablet, as well as other devices expected to be released this year.

USB-C is a universal connector that is capable of twice the theoretical amount of speed of USB 3.0, supporting a top speed of 10Gbps; with a power output of up to 20 volts (100 watts) and 5 amps, it can charge most notebook computers in the time most tablets and smartphones are now charged.

“Not all cables are created equal. This will become more apparent as consumers begin to discover that in a new era of faster access, more storage and more power with USB-C technology, it will be hard to find a cable that stands the test of time and is affordable,” said Bernard Luthi, president of Monoprice. “Because of our nimble and flexible manufacturing process, we are among the first providers of USB-C connectivity solutions that offer exceptional performance, quality and durability.”

Monoprice’s line consists of: a 3.1 USB-C to USB-C cable ($24.99 retail); a 2.0 USB-C to USB-A cable ($9.99); a USB-C to USB 3.0 A/F – enables USB 3.0 A to connect to a USB-C port ($11.99); a USB-C to DisplayPort cable ($34.99); and a USB-C to HDMI adapter ($34.99).
