Mitsubishi Shows 1,080p Lineup

DENVER — Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America showed custom installers who attended CEDIA Expo this month a pair of high-definition 73W-inch 1,080p DLP TVs, and demonstrated its expanded lineup of high-definition 1080p LCD TVs and 720p LCD-based rear projection HD sets.

Mitsubishi’s WD-73732 ($5,999 suggested retail) and WD-73831 ($6,499) HDTVs feature Mitsubishi’s PerfectColor and PerfecTint systems that allow for independent color intensity and hue adjustment of six separate colors, digital video signal processing to enhance sharpness and detail and the company’s 4D Video Noise Reduction technology.

Both models accept and display full resolution 1,920 by 1,080p signals and combine a Texas Instruments’ DMD with Mitsubishi’s patented TurboLight180 and high aperture lens system to generate a 10 percent brighter on-screen image than that produced by a standard 180-watt lamp system.

Units include digital CableCARD slots, TV Guide Onscreen electronic program guides, ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuning, dual HDMI jacks, and IEEE-1394 and HD component video inputs.

Mitsubishi also showed four fully integrated 1,080p high-definition LCD TVs featuring the company’s third-generation up conversion system called Plush1,080p. Technology adds the latest 1,080i to 1,080p de-interlacing techniques, Mitsubishi said.

The 37W-inch Mitsubishi LT-37131 ($3299) and LT-37132 ($3499) models offer remote controlled, motorized swivel bases. The 46W-inch LT-46131 ($4899) and Diamond LT-46231 ($5199) models include the company’s Full Spectrum Color enhanced CCFL backlighting technology which reproduces over 90 percent of the NTSC color gamut, compared with 72 percent in standard LCD panels.

Also included in the LCD models are: 4D Video Noise Reduction, and the ability to accept and display full 1,920 by 1,080p resolution sources.

Other features include dual HDMI inputs, an IEEE1394 interface, DVI-I and component inputs, ClearThought Easy Connect, which simplifies set up by recognizing when a component is connected.

The LT-37132 and the Diamond LT-46231 models add TV Guide On Screen and Mitsubishi’s proprietary NetCommand system, which allows control of an entire home theater system from a single, illuminated remote. The Diamond LT-46231 also adds a high style black gloss finish and a second simple remote control.

Other LCD TVs shown included a new line of rear projection HDTVs that feature three-chip LCD technology in the 52W- and 62W-inch screen sizes. Mitsubishi’s 52W-inch WD-52531 ($2,199 suggested retail) and 62W-inch WD-62531 ($2999) models feature new compact, high-style designs with thin bezels offering more picture in less space. Both models offer 1,280 by 720p pixel resolution and feature Mitsubishi’s Plush720p up-conversion technology.
