Microsoft, Samsung Back Qi Wireless Charging

Piscataway, N.J. — Two heavy hitters have thrown their weight behind the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and its Qi wireless charging standard.

Microsoft and Samsung Electro-Mechanics have joined the WPC board, the consortium announced.

“Microsoft and Samsung Electro-Mechanics are important players in furthering Qi’s adoption in more devices, cars, products and places,” said John Perzow, market development VP at the WPC.

WPC said its membership has significantly grown in the past few months, with new members including IKEA, ZTE Corporation and Aircharge. More than more 200 companies are now members of the WPC.
