Meridian Ups Capacity, Outputs Of Latest Server

NEW YORK —

Meridian Audio has shipped its
$12,000-suggested Sooloos Media Core 600 sixzone
audio server, which provides more storage capacity
and more output types per zone compared to
the company’s other multizone servers.

It’s also Meridian’s first Sooloos server with proprietary
SpeakerLink output, which delivers balanced
96kHz/24-bit digital audio and control signals
up to 300 feet over Cat-5e cable to Meridian’s
active DSP speakers, which can be daisy-chained
to avoid home-running cable from each speaker to
the server.

The single-chassis server, which can be rackmounted
or used as a standalone unit, features a
pair of 2TB hard disk drives configured as a RAID
1 array, capable of storing music from about 5,000
CDs in lossless FLAC format as well as a mirrored
copy of the content. The device can also be configured
to deliver 4TB of primary storage, with mirrored
copy storage on an external hard drive.

Multiple servers can be daisy-chained to deliver
dozens of playback zones, the company said.

The server also accesses thousands of Internet
radio stations as well as the Rhapsody music service,
and connects to multiple control systems, including
the free Sooloos App for iPad, iPhone and
iPod Touch.

The server features two analog outputs, two coaxial
S/PDIF digital outputs, and two SpeakerLink
output per zone.
