LG unveiled wireless ear buds that can charge while still worn around the neck.
The LG Tone Free Bluetooth buds, which will take on Apple’s AirPods, resemble the design of the company’s popular Tone and Tone Active Bluetooth headphones. Rather than charging via a portable case— as is custom with most wireless buds — the Free instead dock inside a neckband.
The ear buds feature a play time of three hours when they are undocked from the neckband; using them while in the band extends the time to seven hours. The band also serves as a notification device, vibrating whenever a call or text message is received.
Other features include balanced-armature speaker drivers, built-in dual MEMS mics for hands-free calls, and a $199 price tag. A charging cradle to charge both the band and the buds is also included. It takes approximately two hours to reach a full charge, according to LG.
They are currently available in black through Best Buy for $199 and will roll out to other retailers later this spring.
