LG Steps Up Performance Of Latest 10.1-Inch Tablet

Seoul, Korea – Industrywide tablet sales might be down, but that’s not deterring LG from its planned launch of a next-generation 10.1-inch G Pad II 10.1 at next month’s IFA show in Berlin.

The device, planned for North America and other key markets, will be available in Wi-Fi and LTE versions. It accelerates processing speed, offers a higher resolution screen, and come with longer battery life than its predecessor, the company said.

LG offers tablets in multiple sizes in the U.S., and they’re available with LTE through U.S. carriers that have been promoting tablets as a way to boost monthly revenues in a mature smartphone market.

The tablet, optimized for media consumption, was developed in response to consumer demand “for a large display, bigger battery and faster performance all without raising the price,” said Chris Yie, VP and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications.

Pricing and ship dates weren’t revealed, nor was battery life.

The Android 5.1.1 device features WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display with 224 PPI, 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and 2GB RAM compared to its predecessors’ 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1280 by 800 display, and 1GB RAM. Like before, it offers 16GB embedded memory plus a microSD Card slot.

The tablet, which comes with bronze metallic finish, is said to offer the slimmest bezel among similar-sized tablets currently on the market. It is only 7.8mm thick.

Other key features include 5- and 2-megapixel cameras, Category 4 LTE (offering peak download speeds of 150Mbps down and 50Mbps up), USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac.

The device also features Reader Mode, which reduces eye fatigue by reducing the blue light of the display backlight; Dual Window, which splits the screen to display two applications at the same time; and QuickMemo+, which lets users create, save and share memos from any screen without opening a separate application.

The G Pad II 10.1 also comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office for Android Tablet and an additional 100GB of free OneDrive storage for two years.
