LG To Show Next-Gen Monitors

Seoul, South Korea ― LG Electronics said Monday it will use the upcoming IFA show to unveil its IPS 21:9 curved ultra-wide monitor (model 34UC97) and a Digital Cinema (4K) monitor among a slate of next generation display technologies.

IFA will be held Sept. 5-10 in Berlin.

LG is billing the ultra-wide display as “the world’s first monitor to incorporate a curved IPS screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio.”

The 34-inch monitor, and similarly styled 24-inch gaming monitor (model 24GM77), feature a range of connectivity options, performance capabilities and styling designs.

The flagship IPS 21:9 curved ultra-wide monitor will target professional and home entertainment enthusiasts. The Cinemascope-like aspect ratio of the screen will feature a gentle curve for a more immersive experience, LG said.

The panel offers Quad HD resolution (3,440 by 1,440) and is said to be of particular value to digital photographers and filmmakers due to the extra level of detail and accuracy afforded by the higher resolution.

The monitor is compatible with both PCs and Macs and supports Thunderbolt 2 for high-speed data transfers ― four times faster than USB 3.0 — with the ability to daisy-chain multiple displays together.

The monitor also has Maxx Audio technology and a 7-watt stereo speaker system designed to deliver peak audio performance across all frequencies.

LG will also unveil a Digital Cinema 4K monitor for the first time at this year’s IFA.

The 31-inch display offers true 4K (4,096 by 2,160) resolution meeting the Digital Cinema Initiative’s standard for resolution, equivalent to four times that of FullHD monitors.

Model 31MU97 will target professionals such as movie editors. It features an IPS 4K display, affording a wide viewing angle, and is able to reproduce 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color space, LG said.

The Digital Cinema 4K monitor is hardware-calibration-ready and features Dual Color Space and LG’s exclusive True Color Pro calibration software.

The new 24-inch LG gaming monitor, model 24GM77, is specifically designed for fast-paced gaming, such as first-person shooters. It provides a refresh rate of 144Hz; LG’s Dynamic Action Sync mode, which cuts input lag; Black Stabilizer for consistent blacks across different scenes; and Game mode, which offers three optimized settings triggered by a hotkey on the monitor, with the option to create customized presets.

LG also includes in the gaming monitor its Motion 240 system, developed for gaming to minimize motion blur, with a fast response time of less than 1ms.
