LG Launches ‘Connected UHD’ LCD TV Lineup

New York – LG Electronics has formally launched today its third-generation Ultra HD LED LCD TV line offering seven screen sizes in three model series.

The new Ultra HD series includes the UB9800, UB9500 and UB8500, and will include screen sizes ranging from 49 inches to 84 inches.

LG is serious about making Ultra HD TVs a reality for consumers now. That’s why our new lineup offers a broad variety of series, class sizes and prices,” said David VanderWaal, LG Electronics marketing head. “With a smart-TV platform as simple and robust as WebOS and IPS panels that deliver ultra-wide viewing angles, LG’s Ultra HD TVs have the most comprehensive features available to American consumers,” he said today during CE Week, here.

All of the models offer 3,840 by 2,160 resolution (four times that of 1080p FullHD) and are said to conform to the newly expanded CEA terminology for “Connected Ultra HDTVs.” Over and above that, the sets will be ready to stream 4K content from Netflix, LG said.

As part of the launch through Aug. 16, LG revealed an exclusive promotion, offering purchasers of a qualifying LG Ultra HD 4K TV a 12-month subscription to Netflix, compliments of LG.

The top-of-the-line Ultra HD LED LCD TV series — UB9800 — features LG’s proprietary picture-quality-enhancing technologies, including LG LED Plus edge lighting with local dimming, wide viewing angles, Ultra IPS panel technology, and an Ultra Clarity Index (UCI) of 1560 for smooth motion images.

The sets will incorporate the latest inputs and circuitry to display and decode native UHD content, including new HDMI inputs, HEVC H.265 decoding and Smart TV+ WebOS.

Audio is supported with a high-performance Harmon/Kardon-designed audio system offering 70 watts of power to 4.2 channels in model 65UB9800 ($4,499 suggested retail), 90 watts to 5.2 channels in model 79UB9800 ($7,999) and 120 watts to 5.2 channels in model 84UB9800 ($14,999).

The UB9500 series offers a different cosmetic package with LED Plus edge lighting with local dimming, Ultra IPS LCD panel for wider viewing angles, and 1500 UCI.

The series will also include new HDMI inputs, H.265 decoding and the Smart TV+ WebOS interactive functionality.

All models offer an onboard 35 watt 2.1-channel sound package and will include: 55-inch ($2,499) and 65-inch ($3,499) screen sizes.

The UB8500 series features LED Plus edge lighting with local dimming, Ultra IPS panel, 1200 UCI, new HDMI inputs, H.265 decoding Smart TV+ WebOS, a 20-watt onboard sound system and 49- ($1,499), and 55-inch ($1,999) screen sizes.

All LG UHD models include LG’s Tru-4K Engine Pro, up-scaling system that uses a multistep process to present regular HD content in near-Ultra HD quality on the new 8 million pixel displays.
