Lexar Media Files For IPO

Flash-memory maker Lexar Media yesterday filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an Initial Public Offering of shares of its common stock.

Lexar manufactures and markets CompactFlash, SmartMedia and, by later this year, MemoryStick. In addition, the company has revealed plans to enter the digital image services sector with online and brick & mortar programs expected to be put in place this year. The move is part of Lexar’s plan to become a fully integrated photography company, said Jack Peterson, Lexar’s VP of consumer products.

“At Lexar our goal is to be like Kodak,” Peterson said. “Kodak sells film, but makes its money on all the services and processing it offers. We would like to get into digital print services.”
