The research group Display Search reported that LCD desktop monitor shipments increased at a faster then expected rate during the third quarter.
Display Search, an NPD Group company, said monitor shipments rose 68 percent to 28.4 million, compared to the same period the previous year. For the year, Display Search is projecting 106.2 million desktop monitors to ship worldwide, generating $35 billion in sales. At this rate of shipment, LCD monitors will comprise 74 percent of all desktop monitors being shipped, the company reported.
The company does not foresee any slackening in LCD demand as more companies will soon require additional flat-panel monitors to meet the need of new software applications and as consumers start replacing older 4:3 aspect ratio models with widescreen types.
