Cupertino, Calif. — LaCie unveiled the first external hard drive with USB-C technology.
The USB-C standard, which permits a reversible connector and was first announced by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group last summer, was prominently praised yesterday as part of Apple’s MacBook announcement. LaCie’s new drive, the USB 3.0 Porsche Design Mobile Drive, also comes with comes with an adapter cable for use with standard USB ports.
The drive boasts an enclosure made from 3mm–thick solid aluminum. The 500GB model weighs 6.4 ounces, while the 1TB and 2TB models weigh 8.5 ounces. Pricing had not been set by LaCie at press time.
