It was another good year for LG ...

J.D. Power released its 2018 satisfaction studies for both kitchen and laundry appliances, and it was another very good year for LG.

The “Laundry Appliance Satisfaction Study” and the “Kitchen Appliance Satisfaction Study” measure customer satisfaction in 11 segments of major appliances:

  • clothes washers (front-load washers and top-load washers are measured separately);
  • clothes dryers;
  • dishwashers;
  • cooking appliances (cooktops, freestanding ranges and wall ovens measured separately);
  • over-the-range microwaves; and
  • refrigerators (French door refrigerators, side-by-side refrigerators and top-mount freezer refrigerators measured separately).

LG took home top honors in customer satisfaction for side-by-side refrigerators and top-load washers. It was also the highest-ranking company for top-mount freezer refrigerators and freestanding ranges, marking the second consecutive year the company received the designation in both of these categories.

Kenmore Elite, meanwhile, ranked highest for French door refrigerators and clothes dryers, while Maytag was No. 1 with dishwashers.

Bosch was No. 1 for both wall ovens, cooktops and over-the-range microwaves, and Samsung was tops in front-load washers.

J.D. Power’s laundry study is based on more than 8,600 evaluations from consumers who purchased clothes washers and/or dryers during the past 12 months.

The kitchen study is based on 2,896 evaluations from consumers who purchased dishwashers; 4,779 evaluations from those who purchased cooking appliances; 2,842 evaluations from those who purchased over-the-range microwaves; and 7,698 evaluations from those who purchased refrigerators during the past 12 months.

Both studies were fielded in March through April of this year.

As per the Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI), the consumer market for major household appliances is expected to reach $23.5 billion in 2018 and $27 billion by 2022, J.D. Power noted.
