Imaging Business Lands SkyMall

RIDGEFIELD, PARK, N.J. – C&A Marketing, a digital imaging distributor, retailer and supplier based here, has acquired the SkyMall in-flight brand in a bankruptcy auction.

C&A, which licenses the Polaroid brand and operates the Ritz, Wolf and Calumet photo chains, said it plans to revitalize SkyMall through strategic retail alliances, branded product lines, cross promotions, and possible “popup” stores.

“We’ve identified tremendous interest from the industry,” said C&A president Harry Klein. “Our vision for the brand is to make it relevant to today’s travelers.”

At its peak, the once ubiquitous SkyMall catalog was in the pocket of every airline seat and was viewed by nearly 30 million air travelers annually.

C&A paid $1.9 million for the property last month following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by its parent company Xhibit in January.

The purchase does not include airline contracts, claims Scott Jordan, founder/CEO of tech apparel maker SCOTTeVest, who plans to launch his own in-flight publication, Sky2Buy, this summer.
