HP Readying Scanner Line

Hewlett-Packard is preparing to ship five new models in the company’s Scanjet scanner line, including a $99 photo scanner.

The HP Photo Scanner 1000 is designed to give families and businesses a quick way to digitize snapshots, up to 4 inches x 6 inches in size, at 300 dpi. The 1000 takes about 14 seconds to scan an image and can optimize the results for printing, Web posting or e-mailing. The device is 10 inches x 7 inches and has just started shipping.

For the back to school shopper, HP has started shipping the $149 Scanjet 4400c. It is configured as a basic home scanner with 300 dpi resolution that has an image ready for previewing in about 13 seconds. The step-up Scanjet 4470c, with a $199 suggested retail price, adds a two character LCD for selection of copy and quantity and has a lighted adapter for handling 35mm slides.

The two high-end models are the Scanjet 5470c and 5490c. The former offers 2400 dpi resolution, 16-character LCD, and the ability to directly e-mail scanned images or burn them to CD-R media. The 5490c adds a 25-sheet automatic document feeder and can scan seven pages per minute. Respective suggested retail prices are $299 and $399.
