HK Enhances Music Server

Harman Kardon has expanded the capacity of its planned four-zone DMC 1000 music sever to 160GB from an original 80GB and upped the CD ripping speed to 16x from 4x, the company said.

The $2,999-suggested DMC 1000, Harman Kardon’s first HDD music server, is called a Digital Media Center by the company. It’s a 720p up-scaling DVD-Audio/Video player that rips CDs, transfers the content to an internal HDD, and transfers the files to USB drives and memory cards for playback in portable devices. The server also stores digital images and plays back compressed music files and digital images stored on portable media and CDs.

A separate DVD-A/V player, the $399-suggested DMC 250, similarly doubles as a music-filling station, ripping CDs and transferring the content to portable media at up to 4x speed. It also plays back compressed music files and digital images stored on portable media and CDs.

Both models are still due in November with a new on-screen user interface and new industrial design that create a floating appearance.
