Thomson staged a demonstration of its forthcoming 38W” HDTV set on Capitol Hill Monday, by showing the NCAA men’s basketball championship game in the 1080I format for government officials. The event was one of many similar showings across the country to promote RCA digital sets and underscore the company’s sponsorship of the telecast.

Thomson stressed the signals were received perfectly with rooftop and “rabbit ear” antennas and that the signals were transmitted using the government-approved VSB modulation standard. This 38W” model was one of seven RCA DTV products used for the Washington demonstration.
