Harman Acquires iOnRoad

Stamford, Conn. — Harman International Industries announced it has acquired iOnRoad Technologies, maker of the augmented-reality driving app with the same name.

The app runs on a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows and Linux, and is expected to help Harman strengthen its “leadership in global infotainment systems and services for leading automakers, and accelerate the rollout of new [advanced driver assistance system] functionalities,” Harman said.

The app, which Harman added has already been downloaded more than 1 million times, features headway monitoring, car locator, collision warning and lane-departure warning. Harman will integrate it into its heads-up displays.

During International CES in January, Harman talked about its plans to bring infotainment and augmented driving to its head-up displays.
