Gateway launched a limited back-to-school offer through Wal-Mart last month that bundles an eMachines notebook, security software and a backpack for $798.
The N10 notebook bundle will sell through 3,200 Wal-Mart locations and will include an N10 notebook featuring a 14.1-inch display; Mobile AMD Sempron 3200+ processor running at 1.6GHz; integrated Wi-Fi; double-layer, dual-format DVD burner; NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 graphics; 512MB DDR2 memory (expandable to 4GB); 60GB hard drive; and XP Media Center Edition 2005.
To help ensure the computer’s physical security Gateway is including a two-year subscription to Computrace Lojack for Laptops Stolen Computer Service. For Internet security the N10 has a two-year subscription to McAfee’s Internet Security Suite.
Other extras are a Targus backpack and a 128MB USB 2.0 flash-memory drive.
In other news Gateway late last month upgraded its high-end FX510 gaming line to include Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors.
The Core 2 Duo is about 40 percent faster and much more energy efficient than Intel’s Pentium D, Gateway said, adding it will shortly incorporate the Core 2 Duo into its business desktops and notebooks and consumer notebook lines. The FX510 was introduced earlier this year and incorporates a BTX chassis and an ATI RADEON x1900 Crossfire Edition graphics.
The FX510 is only available direct from Gateway. Pricing depends upon configuration.
