New York – Ford beat other automakers and the autosound aftermarket in offering head units that control the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on a connected smartphone.
Consumers who download the latest version of SiriusXM Internet Radio App onto their Android or Apple smartphone will be able to use a Ford Sync infotainment system equipped with Sync AppLink to control the app.
The app accesses SiriusXM’s MySXM and SiriusXM On Demand streaming services. MySXM lets users personalize many SiriusXM commercial-free music and select comedy channels. SiriusXM On Demand lets listeners choose favorite episodes from a catalog of more than 300 shows and more than 3,000 hours of content.
The app does not stream SiriusXM’s mainstream music-streaming service.
Sync systems let drivers use voice commands, steering-wheel controls or radio controls to control the app, phone-stored music and other vehicle systems, including the factory radio and satellite-radio tuner.
The updated Internet radio app can be used in more than 1 million Ford vehicles equipped with Sync AppLink.
Consumers buying a new Ford vehicle will get a six-month All Access subscription to SiriusXM’s premium satellite programming via satellite and to the personalized and on-demand streaming services.
In the home, many networked audio/video receivers and wireless tabletop music systems stream SiriusXM Internet Radio’s mainstream streaming service.
