Flood Of Cases Follow iPhone 5 To Market

New York – Apple’s iPhone 5 announcement spearheaded a veritable tsunami of corresponding introductions from accessories vendors looking to protect the new device. Following is a roundup of the new market entries.

3D Systems said its FreshFiber 3D cases are currently available for the iPhone 5. The cases, which can be personalized using the company’s NameMelt app, can be purchased on FreshFiber.com and Cubify.com.

Acase announced the availability of two SKUs, an ultra-slim slide sleeve, the Citta, with an interlocking diamond textured back to improve grip, and the dual-layer protective SuperLeggera Pro, constructed of polycarbonate and silicon with jack and port covers to keep dust out. They are available now on Amazon and at www.apluscase.com.tw for $16.95 and $19.95, respectively.

Ballistic has expanded four lines of cases for the iPhone 5, including its newest collection, the SG Maxx, which features the company’s first-ever molded screen protector. Also being offered are SKUs from its five-layer Hard Core series, the slim form-factored Shell Gel line, and the even slimmer Ballistic Smooth collection. Retails will range from $30-$60.

Belkin said protection from its Shield, Grip, Sport Armband, EaseFit Armband and Screen Guard collections will be available in late September for the iPhone 5, as well as its View case. Pricing will range from $14.99 to $34.99.

Bling My Things’ UBling lets consumers decorate the iPhone 5 case with colorful plastic inserts. It will be available in mid-October for $39.99.

CM4’s Q Card case is designed to protect the iPhone and hold three credit cards. It comes in black, green, red or brown for a $39.99 suggested retail.

Cygnett will have a variety of cases available for the latest Apple phone, including art-inspired protection and “rough and tumble” cases. Pricing will range from $16.99 to $39.99.

Griffin Technology will offer a full line of cases for the iPhone 5, including cases from the Animal Parade, KaZoo and Moxy collections. They will be “available soon,” the company said, with pricing ranging from $19.99 to $49.99. 

Hex said it will begin shipping on Oct. 1 new versions of its Axis, Core, Stealth and Solo accessories. The Axis now has more storage, a cash pocket, a hinging mechanism and a camera cut-out. Pricing for the company’s cases range from $29.95 to $49.95.

Hitcase said its Hitcase Pro for the iPhone 5 will be available in mid-December for a $129 suggested retail. The waterproof, shock-proof case is designed for action sports and pairs with a free app app to record speed, altitude and G-Force.

iLuv will have a variety of cases available for the new Apple darling, with pricing ranging from $24.99 to $54.99. Included will be its Pulse Case, a dual-layer case with shock-absorbing ridges, and its Topog mesh case with a ventilating design.

Incipio announced Sept. 21 availability of its case collection featuring Plextonium, a proprietary stiff polycarbonate that the company said delivers better drop and scratch resistance, while also allowing easy, reliable manufacturing, as well as NGP (“next generation polymer”), a softer rubber-like material similar to silicon but smoother to the touch. Five new SKUs will be offered with more slated for the coming weeks.

Kensington said it will have 14 accessories that will be available soon for pre-order. Products will include protective cases and car accessories.

Macally is adding 16 new iPhone 5 cases. They will ship by the end of the month at suggested retails from $9.99 to $34.99.

Marware said its SportShell Convertible, Revolution, Stash, MicroShell, CEO Prestige Plus, FlipVue and Zoey cases are available for pre-order. Pricing ranges from $24.99 to $49.99, and all come with a screen protector and a microfiber cleaning cloth.

Musubo announced its Retro case, “inspired by Tokyo street fashion,” which features a classic 1950s microphone design. It provides dual-layer protection with a polycarbonate shell and silicon cushioned interior.

OtterBox said consumers can place pre-orders for iPhone 5 versions of its Defender and Commuter cases. They will begin shipping Sept. 21.

Proporta is offering its signature genuine leather cases and pouches lined with aircraft-grade aluminum, as well as an aluminum hard shell, a faux leather flip case, and a new version of its BeachBouy waterproof and submersible cases. The cases range from $20-$40.

Scosche Industries announced five new iPhone 5 cases as well as three varieties of screen protectors. Cases include the flexible rubber StrapKase with hand strap, the genuine leather and polycarbonate RawHide, the smooth silicone GlosSee, and two sports models, the kickstand-equipped KickBack, and the neoprene SoundKase with armband.

Paris-based Sculpteo is using 3D printing and a free customizing app to allow iPhone 5 owners to design their own case using a wide range of online designs, textures and patterns, or their own photos. Cases start at $19.95.

Seidio’s Surface, Active and Convert cases can be pre-ordered from the company’s website. The first two come with or without kickstands, while the Convert has layers that can be added for further protection. Pricing ranges from $29.95 to $44.95.

Sena’s leather cases and wallets, including its UltraSlim Pouch, Hampton Flip and Magia wallet, are currently available for pre-order. Pricing ranges from $29.99 to $59.99.

X-Doria added six new models and a screen film, including the top-of-line Shield, a hard case that includes a polycarbonate front screen shell that allows touch control, as well as silicon port and jack covers. Other hard shell models include the dual-layer Venue, the glossy finished Dash and the Cubit, which can be customized with colorful interchangeable silicon cubes.

XtremeMac announced a line of new cases including two active models, the moisture wicking Sportwrap with armband, and the Sportwrap LED that adds saftey lights. In addition, the Microshield Stand is a durable plastic case with kickstand, the Microshield Fade is available in six translucent gradient-color combinations, and the Microshield Style features a cork finish.

Wrapsol extended its Ultra Xtreme protective film line to include the new iPhone. It is available for pre-order now at www.wrapsol.com, retailing for $14.95 for screen-only and $29.95 for complete front and back wrap.

And ZooGue said its Social Shell Case Pro will come in 10 colors for a $14.99 suggested retail. Features include soft touch with ridged sides and easy access to ports.
