Extron Extras: First Speakers, HDMI Over CAT-5

Anaheim, Calif. – Extron launched its first speakers and a new digital video scaler that converts video to up to 1,080p.

Also new: the DVI 201 DVI/HDMI Extender, a transmitter and receiver set for sending DVI (Digital Visual Interface) or HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) signals using conventional data network cabling such as CAT-5e and CAT-6. The DVI 201 transmits HDTV signals over 200 feet and computer-video signals over 100 feet at UXGA (1,600 by 1,200) resolution. The DVI 201 supports long-distance transmission of the DDC (Digital Display Channel) signal as part of the DVI standard and HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), used for copy protection of HDTV broadcasts and high-resolution content from DVD players and HD set-top boxes.

The Systems Integrator speaker series consists of two-way surface-mount, in-ceiling-, and in-wall speakers, designed primarily for educational and commercial facilities but also appropriate for residential installers, the company said. Some in-ceiling speakers come with back cans. All speakers are two-way models; the in-ceiling models feature coaxial drivers with pivoting tweeters. The scaler, at an expected $2,150 to $13,795, features 59 selectable output rates and video switching.
