Epson Unveils New Stylus Photo Printer

Epson introduced its newest Stylus Photo printer, the Photo 900, which can print directly to CD/DVD media.

The Photo 900 will ship this month for a suggested retail of $199. It features 5,760-by-720-dpi resolution with a 6-color photo dye ink system. With an included adapter, users can print directly to CDs and DVDs. The system will only work with special inkjet-printable blank CD/DVD media, currently sold almost solely by online vendors.

Epson product manager Parker Plaisted said the company will include a single inkjet printable CD for customers to get started and literature directing them to Web sites where they can find the proper blank CD/DVDs.

The printer includes a roll paper handler and can produce borderless prints without margins in sizes of 4 by 6, 5 by 7 and 8 by 10 inches.

According to Plaisted, Epson is positioning the printer for the “video, audio and photo enthusiast” who likes to burn images or music files to blank CDs and needs an easier labeling solution. It includes software for designing artwork and print-templates for CD/DVD.
