Epson announced two new six-color photo printers, filling out the lower end of its photo printer line up.
Both models offer individual ink tanks and can print directly to inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs with the new ability to print from the center to the edge of the disc.
According to Epson, the new printers offer improved color saturation compared to their predecessors. The models also feature automatic image enhancement for adjusting a photo that is too dark when a subject is backlit.
The entry-level Stylus Photo R220, for an estimated $99, features 5,760 by 1,440 dpi resolution with droplets up to three picoliters and can produce borderless prints up to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. It can print a borderless 4 by 6-inch in 57 seconds.
The R340 builds off the R220 by adding PC-free functionality, a 2.4-inch LCD and memory card slots. Epson added a new print by date feature on the R340.
The printer can connect to external drives and with an optional adapter ($69) can accept images from Bluetooth-enabled devices.
It is available now for an estimated street price of $199.
