EchoStar announced at CES it has reduced the price of its high- definition television packages, which include an HDTV monitor and DISH Network HD receiver, to $999 plus a commitment to take certain EchoStar HD programming.
Last fall, EchoStar launched the HDTV bundles, which include either a 40W-inch rear projection HDTV monitor or a 34W-inch direct-view CRT HDTV monitor for $1,499 as a means of leveling the HDTV playing field for independent satellite dealers that sell EchoStar equipment and services. Under the program, dealers can sell HDTV systems at price points that can compete with big-box regional and national accounts.
The packages include HDTV monitors manufactured for EchoStar by Thomson carrying the DISH Network logo, and EchoStar’s new entry HDTV receiver model 811. As another new offer, the company said it will allow bundled system customers to step up to the new DISH PVR 921 combination HDTV receiver and high-definition capable personal video recorder for a $1,599 suggested retail price.
In other news, EchoStar announced its new Digital Home Advantage plan offering free equipment for two TV hookups, free installation and free local channels where available for a minimum subscription of $29.99 per month to the America’s Top 60 basic programming package.
The Digital Home Advantage plan begins Feb. 1, and will be open only to new subscribers.
