DTS:X Coming To ‘American Ultra’ Blu-ray On Nov. 24

A second Blu-ray title with DTS:X object-based sound tracks will hit the market on Nov. 24 with the availability of “American Ultra” from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

The title will join “Ex Machina,” which was released July 14, also from Lionsgate.

The American Ultra Blu-ray disc is part of a Blu-ray Combo Pack with DVD and Digital HD at $29.99. The Digital HD version will also be available separately on Nov. 10.

DTS hasn’t said how many DTS:X discs would be launched this year, but it did say DTS:X will appear first on Blu-ray discs before it’s adopted by streaming services.

The DTS:X Blu-ray soundtracks play on existing Blu-ray players, which will pass the audio content through their HDMI outputs as bit streams to DTS:X-equipped AVRs and AVPs for decoding.

The technology is also expected to appear on future 4K Blu-ray discs, given that DTS:X metadata is delivered via DTS-HD Master surround soundtracks, which are approved for use on Blu-ray discs and will appear on future 4K Blu-ray discs.

DTS:X has also arrived in select movies theaters.
