The first of a new "Millennium" series of appliances from Danby begins distribution in mid-November. The initial Millennium product, a countertop dishwasher, will be followed by refrigerators in the 14-cubic-foot size range and laundry appliances, according to Janice Luebbert, Danby's marketing manager.
Danby's 2000 room air conditioner line will include the company's first units with electronic remote-control operation and LED displays, Luebbert said. All air conditioners will be packaged with an installation guide on video tape. "This new video is designed to make it easier for consumers to install the air conditioners in their windows once they get them home," she explained. "It should also reduce returns to the retailers by eliminating consumer frustration about the installation process."
The Millennium dishwasher is only 17 inches high and holds four full settings of dishes, according to Danby. The unit, which connects to the kitchen faucet, has a stainless-steel interior. The suggested retail price is $199.
"With saturation levels in the dishwasher category at a stagnant 58%, the Danby countertop dishwasher will appeal to the growing number of consumers who do not have room for a conventional dishwasher, but want the features and convenience of a full-size dishwasher for under $200," operations VP Doug Greenway said.
The other products in the new series will be available during the fourth quarter, Luebbert said. Danby will introduce additional Millennium appliances at the January Housewares Show in Chicago, where the company will be exhibiting for the first time. -- Cathy Ciccolella
