Dacor Updates Discovery Wi-Fi Range With Voice Control

NEW YORK — Luxury kitchen appliance maker Dacor has added another futuristic twist to its Discovery iQ dual-fuel range.

The app-controlled smart range, which was introduced at International CES in January, will soon be available with a voice-command feature that will enable users to instruct the appliance verbally via their mobile phones.

Like its predecessor, the updated range employs a proprietary Discovery iQ Android cooking app that offers a pre-programmed recipe and cooking guide, plus a remote application for iOS or Android that allows for off-site control over Wi-Fi.

The added voice-command feature, available this spring on both the 48-inch and 36-inch models, will allow users to bark out complex instructions like “Set timer for one hour,” or “Start bake on the left oven at 200 degrees.”

“We have been changing the way people cook in the modern kitchen for nearly 50 years,” said Dacor president Steve Joseph, who demonstrated the range at last month’s CES Unveiled preview event in New York. “We’ve been focused on manufacturing ultra-premium cooking appliances that provide the home chef an unforgettable experience; this voice-command launch is designed to do just that.”

The ranges also feature an integrated wireless Android tablet embedded between the left and right knob arrays for direct touch control.

Joseph noted that the iQ ranges recently passed UL’s (Underwriters Laboratories’) stringent UL-60730 fourth-edition certification, making them the first ultrapremium smart ranges to pass muster. The certification’s requirements address the functional safety of appliances that are network connected or intended for remote operation, Dacor said.

What’s more, the ranges, and all Dacor products, will soon be available in virtually any color a consumer desires under the company’s new DacorMatch color system. The program, which which launches in about a month, will custom-match a product’s finish to any color consumers can provide on a swatch.

“We know that many Dacor customers are actively involved in the design of their home,” Joseph said. “Now, we’re empowering customers to take control of the color palette of their cooking appliances to truly make the kitchen their own.”

To start things off, Dacor has introduced 10 vibrant colors of its own for its ranges and wall ovens, including such tones as Tomato Red, Emerald, Stretch Lime-O, Orange Popsicle, Princess Blue, Blazing Yellow, Hi-Rise Grey, Sangria, Bright White and Radiant Orange.
