Cobra To Bow Trucker PND

Chicago – Cobra Electronics will deliver in September a portable GPS device for truck drivers that will include a database of points of interest (POI) specifically aimed at professional drivers, said the company.

Cobra said it partnered with TruckDown Info International and ProMiles Software Development to develop the database that includes listings of travel centers, fueling stations, heavy-duty towing services, truck-repair shops, truck-friendly hotels, weigh scales, etc.

The new personal navigation device (PND) also offers routing specifically aimed at trucks whose access to certain roads may be restricted. “We have been working with the trucking industry for over 40 years with our line of CB radios and power inverters, so this is a natural progression,” said a Cobra spokesman.

Cobra’s PND will be sold at travel centers and unveiled officially at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas in August when more details will be announced.

Cobra exited the mainstream PND market in December 2007 but said it would continue to supply specialty GPS devices.
