Las Vegas – Chevrolet wasted no time rolling out its 2014 International CES news, announcing last night the addition of OnStar 4G LTE to a portion of its fleet starting this summer.

Chevy will add 4G LTE starting this summer to 10 vehicles, including the Corvette, Impala, Spark and the Silverado, said Alan Batey, senior vice president of Global Chevrolet. More vehicles will  be added later in the year.

“This is the largest number of cars with built-in 4G LTE from the Spark to the Vette. This is not just for the rich and famous,” Batey said.

The car maker chose AT&T as its carrier partner. The 4G system will turn the vehicle into a mobile hotspot enabling up to seven Wi-Fi devices to be connected at one time.

Ralph de la Vega, president of AT&T Mobility, was on hand for the launch and said his company is planning on a line of apps for the service, but he would not go into detail. He also noted that AT&T customers can attach their car to their mobile share plan.

Batey said the company has created the Chevrolet AppShop. This will allow car owners to personalize their in-car experience and that the apps will be accessible directly he put out a call to app developers to create apps for the store.
