CES 2017: 3dRudder Promises Deeper VR Experience

3dRudder will bring its VR motion controller to CES 2017 next month.

The device, also called the 3dRudder, is billed as the only foot-powered VR movement controller. It intends to elevate the gaming experience by adding a fourth axis of motion for total VR immersion while leaving hands free for other devices.

Designed to be used while seated, the circular 3dRudder disc makes movement in VR as natural as driving a car, the company said. Pressure sensors and heel-toe movement help users effortlessly move front/back, left/right, rotate left/rotate right, and up/down without fatigue.

Compatible with all Windows OSX PC gaming systems on Steam and other platforms; Android mobile devices; hand controllers; and Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR headsets, 3dRudder is automatically recognized by mobile devices as a game controller, with no configuration necessary on a mobile device, according to the company.

It features Bluetooth 4.0, as well as a built-in rechargeable 5-volt battery with 12-hour autonomy, and it weighs less than 4 pounds.

Available this coming spring, 3dRudder is priced at $199.
