Bryston introduced a new high-end digital music player for those high-res aficionado consumers.
The BDP-Pi is currently available for a $1,295 suggested retail. The device is built upon the Raspberry Pi and HifiBerry platform, with a chassis that’s one-third the size of Bryston’s BDP player.
The BDP-Pi will playback a range of digital files — from MP3 to lossless 24/192 — and can be connected to virtually any digital-to-analog converter, according to the company. It can also be connected to a network-attached storage drive and access Internet radio and Tidal streaming.
The player features four USB 2.0 and one Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) input; SPDIF (RCA), optical (Toslink), HDMI and USB 2.0 outputs; and IR and TCP/IP control. It measures 2.75 inches by 5.7 inches by 8.5 inches and weighs 2.6 pounds. Black or silver options are available.
“Feedback from our sales channel has indicated that there was a market for a compact digital music player at a lower price point as long as performance remained superb,” said Bryston VP James Tanner. “We have been able to bring together key technologies in order to make the BDP- ϖ a reality and deliver Bryston quality digital entertainment to more music enthusiasts.”
