Astell&Kern has launched two new high-resolution Digital Audio Players with the PD5 and SP4000T Copper.
The new PD5 combines a switchable Quad/Octa-DAC architecture, up to 28 hours of continuous playback, and the EnviroTune feature that analyzes ambient noise to help deliver optimal sound for the listener’s surroundings. Built around eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs, the PD5 allows listeners to select Quad-DAC or Octa-DAC operation. Quad-DAC mode prioritizes longer battery life for extended listening, while Octa-DAC mode unlocks the player’s full sonic potential.
The PD5 supports bit-perfect playback up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and native DSD256. Its octa-core processor and full Android OS platform are optimized for music streaming services, while dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and broad codec support, including Qualcomm aptX HD, LDAC, and LHDC provides several options to listen to high-resolution audio wirelessly.
Meanwhile, Astell&Kern has launched a new Copper version of the recently-released SP4000T. The SP4000T is the first digital audio player to feature four RAYTHEON JAN6418 MIL-Spec vintage vacuum tubes in a channel-separated Quad configuration. Each tube is individually measured and paired, then isolated through independent modular PCBs and a multi-layer architecture. Three tube sound modes—Triode, Ultra Linear and Pentode—combine with Triple AMP Mode and adjustable tube current to provide up to 54 sound combinations. Listeners can choose the clarity and power of OP AMP Mode, the warmth of TUBE AMP Mode, or a five-stage HYBRID AMP Mode that blends both characteristics. A second-generation, five-stage anti-microphonic design minimizes noise caused by external vibrations.
Built on the SP4000 platform, the SP4000T uses dual AK4499EX DACs and dedicated AK4191EQ processors in a fully discrete, channel-separated circuit. High Driving Mode, TERATON ALPHA, ESA signal-alignment technology, Advanced DAR upsampling, Any Layer HDI PCBs and a 99.9% pure-copper Shield Can work together to reduce noise and deliver greater clarity, dynamics and detail. The player supports native playback up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512.
Designed for modern streaming, the SP4000T runs Android 15. Astell&Kern’s ADP technology bypasses Android sample-rate conversion for lossless, bit-perfect streaming, while the company’s first dual Wi-Fi antenna design provides faster, more stable connections. Additional features include 256GB of storage, microSD expansion up to 1.5TB, a six-inch Full HD display, aptX HD and LDAC, BT Sink, USB DAC functionality, ReplayGain, AK File Drop, USB PD 3.0 charging and adjustable Crossfeed.
