Amazon Teams With Starz & Showtime For Streaming Partners Program

Amazon aims to push cable providers further to the edges of irrelevancy with its new Streaming Partners Program for cord cutters.

Under the program, Amazon Prime members can pay monthly subscription fees to such providers as Starz and Showtime. Consumers will be given access to free trials, special pricing, new episodes at time of broadcast, and a single Watchlist across all subscriptions. They will also have unified search (and voice search) across all subscriptions and IMBD X-Ray integration.

In turn, Amazon said it will handle all billing and customer service issues.

A Starz or Showtime subscription, for example, will cost $8.99 per month after a seven-day free trial. Comedy Central’s Stand-Up Plus subscription is $3.99 per month.

Other initial partners include A+E Network (Lifetime Movie Club), AMC (Shudder and SundanceNow Doc Club), Gaia, RLJ Entertainment (Acorn TV, Urban Movie Channel, Acacia TV), DramaFever (DramaFever Instant), Tribeca Short List, Cinedigm (Dove Channel, Docurama, CONtv), Smithsonian (Smithsonian Earth), IndieFlix (IndieFlix Shorts), Curiosity Stream, Qello, FlixFling (Cinefest, Nature Vision, Warriors and Gangsters, Dox, Monsters and Nightmares), BroadbandTV (Hooplakidz Plus), DEFY Media (ScreenJunkies Plus), Gravitas (Film Forum, Daring Docs, Fear Factory), and Ring TV Boxing.
