Alarm.com Turns TV Into Security Monitor

Vienna, Va. – Home-automation service provider Alarm.com is using Amazon’s FireTV settop box and FireTV HDMI stick to display HD video from up to four security cameras at a time on a TV screen.

Consumers must download an Alarm.com app to their FireTV device to view the streams, which can be selected from the Fire TV remote. The remote also adjusts camera angles.

Before today’s launch of the new app, consumers could view video from Alarm.com security cameras on a smartphone, tablet, PC web browser, or Apple Watch.

“By adding incremental value to their services, dealers can deepen their customer relationships and help reduce attrition without incremental costs,” the company said of the new capability.

Alarm.com’s camera selection includes all-weather outdoor cameras and night-vision cameras.

Alarm.com’s app for Fire TV requires an Amazon.com account, a Fire TV or Amazon Fire TV Stick, a TV with an HDMI port, and an Alarm.com account with supported video cameras.

Alarm.com sells monitored security and home-automation services through security specialists and systems integrators. The company’s year-end subscriber base came to 2.3 million.

The company, which recently announced plans to go public, is a vendor partner of ProSource, the specialty A/V and custom-integration division of the BrandSource buying group.
