Aamp Buys U.K.-Based Armour

Clearwater, Fla. — Aftermarket car-electronics accessory supplier Aamp of America completed the acquisition of U.K.-based Armour Automotive, marking Aamp’s sixth acquisition since the company was acquired by Audax Private Equity in November 2006.

Hampshire, U.K.-based Armour designs and distributes connectivity and audio products for sale to vehicle makers and to aftermarket installers and retailers in the automotive, agricultural, and leisure markets. Its brands include Radiomobile, a supplier of head units and speakers; Veba, an in-vehicle A/V equipment supplier; Autoleads installation accessories; and iO Bluetooth hands-free and stereo streaming products.

The acquisition “will help build Aamp into a global platform, expand our product offering into the European and OEM markets, and broaden our technical capabilities,” said Aamp CEO Ron Freeman. Armour “will benefit from additional resources that will position it for greater growth and profitability,” he added.

Aamp supplies car audio integration technologies as well as aftermarket audio accessories and mobile audio/video components through its PAC, Stinger and Phoenix Gold brands and other brands.

The acquisition “will enhance the strategic position of Aamp by increasing scale and diversifying channel and geographic exposure,” added Audax Group managing director Young Lee. “We will continue to pursue strategic add-on acquisitions that complement Aamp’s industry-leading service offering.”

Audax Group was founded in 1999 and invests in lower-middle market companies through offices in Boston and New York. Audax manages more than $5 billion in assets.
