4K Panel Revenues To Jump 94% In 2015

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. — Strong promotion of Ultra HD 4K TVs, rising 4K panel yield rates, and the emergence of 4K displays this year in desktop monitors, notebook PCs, digital signage and mobile devices will boost factory-level 4K panel revenues by 94 percent this year to $18 billion, an IHS report contended.

With the evolution of new manufacturing technologies to enhance the 4K display yield rate and reduce costs, IHS forecast 4K display revenues will hit $52 billion in 2020.

In 2014, revenues hit $9.2 billion in 2014, with 4K LCD TV contributing $8.8 billion to overall revenue, but smartphones and OLED TVs will experience the strongest growth in 2015, IHS said. OLED TV makers are also adopting 4K resolutions.

To date, LCD TV makers have driven 4K LCD panel growth, strongly promoting 4K TVs to enhance value, but 4K content and broadcasting availability is also on the rise, further spurring 4K TV growth, IHS said.

In 2015, LCD panel makers are targeting 40 million 4K LCD TV panel shipments, accounting for 17 percent of all LCD TV panel shipments.
